Description
Circa 1888. More than 240 acres of grounds surround this venerable Victorian hotel, now a National Historic Landmark. Once the island home to an elite circle of Rockefellers, Pulitzers, Vanderbilts and J. P. Morgan, the entrance hall boasts a boar's head over the fireplace and a polished oak, four-story stairway. Antiques and grand mirrors add to the decor. Guests enjoy the opportunity to dine in the Grand Dining Room with its white columns or play golf, championship croquet or tennis. Furnishings in the well-appointed guest rooms include mahogany beds and armoires and some offer views of the intracoastal waterway. Additional features such as fireplaces, balconies, suites and Jacuzzi tubs are offered. The Federal Reserve Room, one of the many meeting rooms, was the site where early drafts of the Federal Reserve Act were written.
Location: Waterfront and Historic residential section.
