Room Detail

Catherine's Room - Deluxe

This oversized sun-drenched corner room on the top floor is named for Catherine Ward, for whom the house was built in 1886. With four windows and 10.5 foot ceilings, this room includes the only working guestroom fireplace in the main house. A remarkable four-poster King bed sits so high steps are needed to reach it. The private bathroom with another two windows and a three-sided glass shower completes the light and spacious space making for a very comfortable and uniquely charming stay.

Rates: $209 - $269

Captain's Room - Deluxe

Named for Captain James Ward, an Irish Sea Captain, who built this exceptional example of High Victorian Italianate architecture for his new wife in the developing Victorian District. This third floor room includes a highly ornate French Rococo style Queen bed. The grandeur of the bed is complimented by an elegant crystal chandelier. An Eastern exposure ensures inviting light that makes the room a delightful experience any time of day. A two-person Jacuzzi is the centerpiece of the spacious bathroom that includes a separate shower and access to a balcony that leads to the courtyard below.

Jim Williams' Room - Superior

This smallest room on the top floor is named for Jim Williams who is credited with having saved as many as 60 private homes in the Historic and Victorian Districts, of which this is one. Through his efforts, the house was purchased by the Historic Savannah Foundation in the 1980s and was reintroduced to Savannah as the 1984 Designer’s Show House. The custom drapes and Queen bed with tufted headboard of tobacco colored linen raise the bar of elegance. With its neutral palette and corner windows, it offers a relaxing and cozy retreat from the heat of the day or cold winter afternoons. Business travel or working holidays are much more enjoyable in this very rich and handsome room. A balcony extends the room size to include a sweeping view of treetops and firework displays from the Savannah River.

Rates: $169 - $229

Jessica's Room - Deluxe

Following the Captain’s death, Catherine continued to live in the large house, but took in two boarders, Misses Jessica and Nell Lynch. Jessica’s Room is a corner room located on the street level. Unique to this room is a private gated entrance that allows access without having to climb stairs. It also includes outdoor seating for enjoying the morning light or evening breeze. Painted in neutral tones with wide horizontal stripes above wainscoting and floor to ceiling window treatments of soft pastel tones creates a simple and elegant feeling. A gilded mirror above the mantel, Queen size four-poster bed and overstuffed chairs add warmth and charm to a light, cool, comfortable and very tasteful garden room.

Rates: $209 - $269

Nell's Room - Superior

Jessica and Nell maintained the house while Mrs. Ward made frequent visits to her family home in New York. Nell’s Room is immediately next door to Jessica’s with windows that face a quiet lot on the side of the house. The Queen-size four-poster pencil bed and traditional wallpaper in soft yellow and cream tones and French Country touches create a warm and comfortable guest experience. The bathroom is larger than most and includes the only bathtub in the house. This quiet and very pretty room also has a private door that leads to the Courtyard and fish pond.

Rates: $169 - $229

Garden Room - Superior

This room is the smallest of the street floor rooms and the original location of the 1886 kitchen. The Queen-size four-poster bed is surrounded by black and white French Country wallpaper complimented by apple green silk bedding. The petit bathroom includes a window and shower. This room also has direct access to the courtyard for quite moments on a warm evening or cup of coffee with the morning paper. It is a wonderfully cozy retreat and a favorite choice among many guests.

Rates: $159 - $219

Hibernian Room - Superior

The name of this room was selected to acknowledge Captain and Mrs. Wards’ rise to prominence in Savannah’s Irish circles. The smallest of all the rooms, the Hibernian Room is elegant and inviting with white and green leaf wallpaper and mirrored chest of drawers, silver and cranberry hurricane candlesticks. A Queen-size bed and bathroom with shower makes this delightful little room a practical way to enjoy a restful retreat. The porch is a very nice extension of the room and overlooks the courtyard where you can listen to the soothing sounds of the fish pond’s waterfall.

Rates: $159 - $219

Sea Trade Room - Luxury

Captain Ward spent the early part of his life sailing the seas. When he arrived in Savannah, he opened a Stevedore company. This room is named for the captain’s life-long relationship with the sea. The tiled entry leads you to doors that open on to a large but warm apricot-colored room with grass cloth wall treatments and floor-to-ceiling silk drapes. The apricot tones are contrasted by a black lacquered Chinese screen used as the headboard with the King-size bed. Vintage lamps, custom bed treatments, working fireplace and two-person Jacuzzi all contribute to a wonderfully romantic escape.

Rates: $269 - $329

Cosmopolitan Room - Luxury

When Catherine left Savannah in 1913, she sold the house to the proprietor of the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Savannah. We chose that name for this room because it suggests the high style of this chic room with private its own balcony. Neutral colors are enhanced by the black marble hearth, chocolate silk drapes, bamboo blinds, warm wood tones, mirrored back splash and dark counters of the wet bar. Custom King-size bed, antique Asian night stands, original artwork and a 32” flat screen TV mounted above the fireplace mantel and behind a mirror only begins to describe this rich room. Tile and mirror bathroom with a two-person shower adds another dimension making The Cosmopolitan Room as unlike a typical bed and breakfast experience as you can imagine.
