Description
Circa 1854. Rich in history, this Gothic Revival home is an original by architect Andrew Jackson Downing. It was fashioned in New York, shipped around Cape Horn and assembled in 1854 where it now has the distinction of being a historical monument and Alameda's oldest house, once owned by a relative of statesman Daniel Webster. Recently renovated, antiques and Victorian furnishings accent the intimate ambiance. Enjoy afternoon tea upon arrival. Almost all of the tasteful guest bedrooms include a fireplace. A cottage offers more privacy. Breakfast is made-to-order. Relax by the fountain and waterfall on the large deck shaded by one coastal redwood. Bicycles are available to explore the area. The inn's restaurant prepares dinner by advance reservation.
