DescriptionCirca 1899. Built for Dr. H.J. Ring, the Gingerbread Mansion is now the most photographed of Northern California's inns. Near Eureka, it is in the fairy-tale Victorian village of Ferndale (a National Historical Landmark). Gingerbread Mansion is a unique combination of Queen Anne and Eastlake styles with elaborate gingerbread trim. Inside are spacious and elegant rooms including two suites with "his" and "her" clawfoot bathtubs. The Empire Suite is said to be the most opulent accommodation in Northern California. Another memorable choice would be "The Veneto", an imaginative experience where guests stay within a piece of artwork. Extensive formal English gardens beautifully surround the mansion and it is a stroll away to Victorian shops, galleries and restaurants. A Wilderness park and bird sanctuary are a half mile away. This property has been featured in San Francisco Focus, Sunset, Travel Holiday, Country Inns, Los Angeles Times, Sunset, PBS (Inn Country USA), HGTV-Restore America, Outbreak (Warner Bros.). Location: Victorian village. Inkeepers NotesWell known as one of Northern California's most photographed inns, the Gingerbread Mansion Inn is a spectacular example of Victorian splendor, both inside and out. The exterior boasts spindlework, turrets and gables, as well as a formal English garden. The inn offers four parlors and eleven romantic guest rooms, all decorated with antiques. Guests are pampered with luxuriously appointed baths (some with his-and-her clawfoot tubs and/or fireplaces), bathrobes, turndown service, morning coffee and a delicious full breakfast. Four parlors are set aside for guest use, including lots of books and magazines as well as games and puzzles to play. Afternoon tea is taken in the parlors, and includes tea, coffee, pastries, cake, cookies, confections, petit fours and fruit with Devonshire cream. The Gingerbread Mansion Inn was recently awarded a four-diamond rating by AAA for the ninth straight year. We consider the Empire Suite to be Northern California's most oppulent room.
