Circa 1809. Enjoy a Civil War Theme bed & breakfast on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Ponds, woods and streams fill the 30 acres of this historic estate. This stone farmhouse boasts four Confederate-themed guest rooms and four Union rooms. Hart's Battery provides a canopy bed and granite walls, while General Merritt's Headquarters takes up an entire floor of the Cornelius Houghtelin farmhouse and includes a fireplace and sitting room. Daily programs offer history demonstrations such as firing muskets and handling cavalry equipment, or artillery ammunition. Friday night ghost stories are another activity. The farm was occupied by Union cavalry and artillery units during the Battle of Gettysburg.

Describe Garden and Grounds

We have 30 acres so we do a lot with our grounds. We have a farm pond with a gorgeous lotus garden. We grow our own herbs and flowers to garnish our plates. We have cold frames so we can get started early in the spring. We have lots of spring bulbs and flowering plants in the summertime. By autumn, the dahlias, marigolds, and impatiens are glorious. We have mowed nature trails throughout the 30 acres. We also have six acres of lawn for ball games or picnics. There is a magnificent old oak grove with a picnic table for those who want to really get off by themselves. The geese nest in the spring. The horses, donkey, goats, sheep, and chickens entertain us through the year. The barn cats and porch cats are endless entertainment. No cats come inside, but if you miss your feline friends, you will find plenty of kitties to love here.

Wedding Event

We recently had our wedding at the B&B and rented out the facilities for the whole weekend. It was a great experience, ALL the staff was warm and helpful and I would easily recommend this to anyone. We stayed in the Tack Room and it was a great time. If you are scared of insects or don't like farm animals I would advise against staying in this room because it was a bit buggy and the farm animals were a bit noisy. I didn't mind because it added to the experience. The tack room's bathroom and tub were gorgeous and we were very happy with the wedding. They allowed us to use the inn for the rehearsal the night before and we had a fire the night after the wedding. If you are looking for a shabby chic barn wedding this is the location to do it at!

Very historical!

We stayed in Sept.2008 (it was my first visit to Gettysburg)and I loved the gourmet breakfast. with a 1 hr. historical presentation after breakfast I liked the old barn nearby with the animals and we even had 2 re-enactors camped out back in a tent who let us fire their muskets!
