Circa 1886. Poised in a cove on Lake Champlain, this 700-acre resort has been run by the Beach family for four generations from mid May to mid October. Landscaped gardens, views of the Adirondacks, tennis courts, croquet and championship golf are part of the inviting setting. During July and August males older than 12 wear coats and ties after 6 p.m. In spring and fall a jacket and collared shirt remains the tradition at Basin Harbor Club. Casual attire is worn during the day. Stay in the rustic charm of a secluded cottage with one to three bedrooms. Delightful accommodations are also available in one of the three historic guest houses. Various packages are available, some that include meal plans. Relax in the natural beauty of Vergennes, Vermont.

My husband and I spent almost a week there this summer and we loved it. It was like going to camp with really well-dressed campers! I usually don't fixate on food, but honestly, we couldn't wait for the next meal. We parked our car at our cabin the first day and never used it, riding bikes everywhere and even venturing out of the resort to explore the country-side (checking carefully to be back in time to eat;)). The staff satisfied our every whim and couldn't have been more gracious. Our only regret is that we didn't bring the kids and our dog. Next time.
