I came to town on business to set an exhibition at the Columbus Museum and was astonished by the place and the people. The Argyle Inn Bed & Breakfast had a lot to do with it. It is situated in the most charming historical district that takes you back to the nineteenth century in style. Wonderful walks to be had in clean and safe surroundings. Houses are beautifully restored and each has its special cachet. I stayed for 11 nights in the back suite of the 1860 house beside the main Inn. The suite had its own roomy and fully equipped kitchen, a large room equipped with a queen-sized bed (firm and comfortable), dresser, mid-nineteenth century sofa (comfortable too –to my surprise), recliner, desk and television, and a large state-of-the-art bathroom with a gigantic tub (for two?) and an independent water/steam shower. Very private & comfortable. Although the restaurant across the street (Café 222) was very nice, I appreciated having a kitchen handy as eating “normal” was desired at times. There was nothing normal about the three course breakfasts at the Inn. Each was different and more creative than the next. More food than I usually eat and still I cleaned-out the place on a regular basis. I particularly enjoyed the fruit crisps, the pecan-pie muffins, egg Benedict and baked oatmeal. The dinning-room, music and place settings were quite wonderful. Wide selection of beverages and, upon demand, the Inn keeper, Susan Weigl, prepared special food to address my food allergies and lactose intolerance. Equally as appreciated as the breakfast delicacies was the plate of sweets (cookies, decadent chocolate brownies, lemon bars, etc.) that materialized in the kitchen upon my return from work every day. I did enjoy meeting other guests but was contented to eat on my own as well while browsing through the morning paper that was set on the table for guests.
A classy place I highly recommend.
