8 Days in the Cottage

OK, its true, we love Applewood & all it has to offer. But when Linda & Chris asked us if we would like to cancel our reservations for the Blue Ridge Room to be the first guests in the Cottage, we were thrilled and humbled. ... It is a perfect mountain hollow get-away for couples by themselves, with kids and/or dogs. It has two bedrooms, two baths, fully furnished kitchen (seriously..everything you would need) with dishwasher, living room, dining room, satellite TV, dual sided fireplace, heated tile floors, AC and heat pump, seven ceiling fans including two on the main porch, handicap ramp and two big porches. The Cottage was nicely appointed, very comfortable and was neat and clean throughout. At this time the Wi-Fi is limited to the Inn. While you can pay extra (if they have room) for their great and healthy breakfast at the Inn, we enjoyed sleeping in and fending for ourselves when it was time to eat. As we had our two dogs with us, we'd rather cook at home than deal with going out to eat in Lexington. The Cottage allowed us to be ourselves and cook what we wanted, when we wanted...we brought our own baby Weber and charcoal. The coffee maker worked flawlessly for our morning perk-me-up and coffee was provided. Sitting with out coffee or late afternoon drinks on the front porch was always entertaining with the wildlife checking us out as much as we were checking them out, even though the deer did eat almost all of Linda's blooming flowers!! The weather during our stay was great for our pool adventures up at the Inn...laying around in our tube, sipping on cool summertime drinks,, catching rays, etc... The cottage is very private, despite the proximity to the Inn and it's location in the hollow is incredibly beautiful. We were so relaxed that we added an extra day as we just didn't want to leave. In every way, the Cottage was perfect for us and our dogs and we cannot wait to return.

Blue Ridge Room

What a glorious vacation we have had. The Applewood Inn has more comforts than home & none of the stress. I rarely just "sit and soak it up" but the Inn demands that. The food(luscious omelette!) was incredible, the llama trek was a joy, the gardens fill the deepest place in my soul, the art is stunning & I've nevere had more fun doing nothing! Leave we must but vcan't wait to rerturn hopefully with grandchildren along.

Best Ever

9 Oct 2011 Wow! We cannot say thank you enough for the best weekend we've ever had! This was our first time at a B&B and "amazing" is the only way to describe this. You have set the bar high. Your home is beautiful and there was not a detail you missed. Thank you for the delicious breakfasts and the great conversations. We have felt at home (or at least a more relaxed version) since we arrived and cannot wait to return to celebrate our anniversary in the summer. Every second has been absolutely perfect. We will truly miss you as well as Sammy!

Kissed by A Llama

12 Jan 2012 We really enjoyed our one night stay. Everything, our room, hot-tub, breakfast, our walk, being kissed by a llama, but best of all, thank you for sitting with us at breakfast. We felt like we were visiting old friends.

Fireflies by the Pool

18 Jun 2011 Our stay was better and more lovely than I would ever have imagined! From livley greetings (face sniffs) from Stryker, wonderful walks alongside the trails and fireflies by the poolside, this has been a peaceful and perfect experience. We'll be daydreaming of Linda's jams and those waterfalls for awhile! Thank you Chris and Linda, Sammy, the llamas and yes, Max!

Relaxation Defined!

12 Sept 2011 Sitting on your porch watching your llamas is the most relaxed we have been in a long time! We have thoroughly enjoyed the time we have had here-the trek, the breakfasts the quiet room and of course spending time with our gracious hosts. We certainly hope to come back again.

30 June-1 July 2011 This is a beautiful retreat that I thoroughly enjoyed. Loved looking out at the llamas. Thanks for being such gracious hosts that can actually serve gluten free pancakes for breakfast. We hope to come back.

Peaceful getaway

11 Jun 2011 Thank you for a splendid weekend. You have a lovely Inn and we felt very welcomed. While we enjoyed all the llamas, we particularly enjoyed the young and rowdy Stryker! The grounds were beautiful, peaceful and a perfect way to relax.

Late Winter Getaway

6 Mar 2011 We had such a wonderful get-away weekend! The breakfasts were delicious, the hospitality friendly, and the llama trek was such a fun experience. The views from our room were gorgeous; Harrison and I looked forward to waking up each morning to go out on the porch and see the view. We will definitely come here again and will recommend the Applewood Inn to all our friends and family!

Beautiful!

June 2011 We highly recommend the Applewood Inn. We will definitely go back. It has beautiful views of the mountains. We loved walking on the trails. We stayed in the room with a private porch and hot tub. Awesome!

Great getaway with Llamas too

July 2011 My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Linda and Chris' Applewood Inn. The llama trek was a fun attraction, despite the heat! We found the location to be so peaceful and beautiful and took advantage of the pool and quiet places to just read or enjoy a glass of wine. We would happily go back!

Wonderful Virginia Hideaway

The Applewood Inn itself is a unique green building with every modern convenience. Thoughtful consideration anticipates every need and desire for a very comfortable and remote getaway, including a friendly hound and an extensive library. For those who wish to remain in touch with the rest of the world, the wireless network and flatscreen TV were great! We even had a sofa in our room facing the television for good cuddling. The llamas are in a field just across the driveway, and they come to eat at the fence for great photo ops. The property has walking trails, and there is a mountain stream at the end of the road perfect for play and a picnic. The inn is two or three miles down a mostly gravel road off of Highway 11. Your GPS may not locate the street, but use Buffalo Bend Road. Buffalo Bend dead ends on Highway 11. Once you find it, the signs will lead you to the inn. There are several sights within ten miles...Natural Bridge and its caverns...a wild life safari drive through that is great...a well done zoo...and Foamhenge! Do not miss the free opportunity to walk within a foam replica of Britain's Stonehenge atop a Virginia hill. The creative artist makes the trip more than worthwhile with humorous signs giving information and misinformation. The zoo is surprisingly good! It is the first time my wife, a zoo freak, has seen a double-wattled cassowary! The innkeepers are delightful souls who enjoy talking about the rigors of keeping llamas and the creative green features of the inn. Breakfast was perfect...an omelet filled with a great variety of flavors that blended well, fresh fruit, juice, and muffins. No one leaves the table without eating their fill. We did not plan a llama trek this trip, but we will next time!

Unique Experience & Setting

10/24/2011 5 Overall 5 Guest room 5 Services 5 Value 4 Cleanliness 4 Dining We were looking for a dog-friendly B&B and found much more.....a perfect room, incredible hospitality, beautiful grounds and surrounding property, and new friends in Chris and Linda. We had the honor of staying longer than any previous guest (9 nights) as this was a long-awaited vacation away from the stress and constant running around that has become our life. That length of time allowed us to become very familiar with the house, property, the innkeepers, and their dogs Sammy and Max. Our dogs became fast friends with Sammy, the official 'greeter', and were facinated by the llamas. Breakfast was different and delicious for each of the nine days. The view from the top of the hill behind the house was incredible no matter when you were there...early morning sunrises, mid-afternoon, sunsets, and the vastness of the night sky. We are planning to return next summer to enjoy the pool and the company of of the Best family. The Applewood Inn was just what we needed and were looking for....the perfect mountian vacation.

Applewodd was a Good Choice

My husband and I stayed a whole weekend at the "Applewood Inn & Llama Trekking" B&B and we loved it. The environment was cozy, nice and peaceful. The house is really beautiful with big glass windows that allow you enjoy the view. Our room has a hot tub (it was called the European Room). The breakfasts were delicious and the hosts were really nice people. It's close enough to Lexington VA where you have several choices to eat out. I recommend it!!

Excellent Place to Stay!

The owners went out of their way to insure our stay at the Inn was an experience to remember. It was my wife's birthday and I request that they place flower and candy in our room to surprise her and they did so even though it was not a part of their usual service. The room were well maintained and the food was excellent. The Inn Keepers were friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Applewood to anyone. Clyde Morris

Not very good...

It was my first time at a b&b and rather disappointing I must say. First I thought the place was very pretty and well secluded. The room was nice and comfortable, enjoyed hanging out on the inside porch and the llamas were an interesting feature, but I must say the inn keepers were not the most friendly people and had too many restrictions. The food was the most horrid fare I have ever tried to eat and frankly felt they misrepresented themselves and what they offer. Transplanted Northerners are not what you want if looking for Southern hospitality. Oh and if you smoke, you will be treated very second class.
