Circa 1872. A beach, winter sports, and heritage farm-style vacation are rolled into one in Montague, Michigan. The year-round beauty of the water is half-a-mile away at the White Lake public beach or four miles away at the grand Lake Michigan. Drive 15 miles to the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex or stay in and help churn butter, gather eggs, gather fresh produce, or simply sit on the gazebo porch and watch for deer and wild turkey. Celebrate the jazz age in the 1920s Room reminiscent of a farm sleeping porch of the era and featuring six floor-to-ceiling windows; reserve it with the Inn-Port Cabin to enjoy private use of the entire second floor. The main floor 1900s Room has whimsical historical items including a school desk and original slate. Awaken to the aroma of an old-fashioned, country breakfast made with farm-fresh ingredients. Bikes are available for exploring the miles of local paths leading to parks and other towns.

Romantic Interest

Amanda's Bequest has hosted couples from 31 countries in a quiet unassuming manner. Privacy is all important, as is making great memories. Valerie is a licensed minister and can perform weddings. If you are seeking escape, great memories, a fantastically relaxing stay, or a unique B&B, you will find it here.

What's Green About Your Inn

Everything is green about our inn. We compost. The animals give us eggs for breakfast in return for kitchen and garden scraps. We grow and preserve much of the food we serve. We do not water our lawns unnecessarily and we focus on reducing and reusing. And we demonstrate how it all can be done attractively and comfortably.

Describe Garden and Grounds

1.5 acres of woodland. 2 vegetable gardens, small orchard. One fantastic herb garden. Ducks, Bunnies, Honey Bees & chickens, all of which contribute to a nice ecosystem of food and no waste. We do not water grass typically and are not wasteful, we consider ourselves good stewards of our environment. We are unique.

1920s Room

Named for the roaring twenties when art deco was new, flappers where the style, and jazz became the rage. Located on nearly half of the upstairs space, guests will enjoy lots of natural light beaming in the six nearly floor to ceiling windows and over 400 sq feet. Painted in the pastels of the times, this room is reminiscent of a 1920s era farm sleeping porch and the surge of outdoors and recreation that occurred in that era. A sitting area with fireplace and a big Jacuzzi tub round out a great room!

Rates: $149 - $195

Inn-Port Cabin Room

In nautical terms, the in-port cabin, is adjacent to the ship’s central control room. Thus, when likely to be called from sleep or attending to administration, the Commanding Officer can be instantly risen from sleep. This in-port cabin is a furnished room, with bedroom and combination sitting room/office. So we bring your our in(n)-port cabin! With a beautiful and comfortable queen bed, two comfy, fun twin bed options (daybed and trundle), smart TV, cable TV, a/c, free wi-fi, 4-season sitting room, and a dining area, this becomes a nice group cabin stay. The four season room is fantastic with its view.

Atkins 1900s Room

Garden Shed Room

A fun space, this room is a reminder of the quintessential Garden Shed that most old time farms had. It looks out on our orchard garden where plums, apples, and pears grow. Their Spring bloom is gorgeous! The garden also has raspberries, blueberries, ground cherries and currents. Roses also live in this garden. Features a Queen bed, private bath in-suite, main-floor level, and charming decor. This is a cozy room with cable TV, Smart TV, wifi, a/c, and plenty of natural light from two 7 foot tall windows, and a garden view.

Rates: $119 - $169

We just returned from our third sunset over nearby Lake Michigan. Despite the steamy weather, we have enjoyed every day and being so close to bike trails, beaches and your pleasant twon center. And, it is extra special to enjoy our visit with the hospitality, great breakfast and conversation of our hosts, John and Valerie. We so much enjoyed meeting you and learning about your story and vision for Amanda's Bequest. Hope to return sometime and sample a different season and, of course, more pie!
