“Apple Hill”
edward scarson city, NV
The Schlafly House is one very classy bed and breakfast. This Victorian home has been restored and decorated beautifully. We had the privilege of staying in the train room, which was filled with memorabilia from the Victorian era. The location of the Schlafly house was perfect. We walked over a few short blocks to down town Placerville.
Rita and Stephanie are wonderful, congenial hostesses. The home is sparkling clean and the food is delicious. We highly recommend staying here.

“Close to Town- walk it”
Joyce L9/29/2010
This well kept-up historic Inn is close to town, quiet, and has a downstairs private bath room available if that is what you need. Rita, our Inn hostess cooked us up a gourmet, beautiful breakfast, and it is obvious she loves what she does and is a contributor to this Pioneer community.

“Charming Warm Setting”
Bruce D6/19/2010
On a short notice we decided to spend an overnighter in Placerville and were fortunate to find a room available in this cozy and comfortable mountain setting in the Gandy Dancer room which to my joy is all about trains, my favorite past-time. The people were warm and welcoming and the other guests equally open and entertaining. Food was excellent and the Placerville town charming and rich in Gold Country history.

“A Lovely Place in Placerville”
David FROSEVILLE, CA
4/4/2010
We had a wonderful time at this charming and delightful B&B. The 2 ladies who run it are extremely helpful, and we enjoyed exchanging experiences with them about the vineyards and restaurants. Our room was spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. We look forward to visiting again.

“Shafsky House & the Innkeepers Rock”
candi h3/14/2010
The Shafsky house is so adorable and cozy. When you stay there, you feel like you are staying with family. :) Rita and Stephanie (the innkeepers) are there to advise of the touristy area, history, and meals for you but only if you want the advice. Otherwise, you never even see them. It is perfectly located to Placerville and all it has to offer within walking distance. We were totally impressed with the room itself. They have thought of everything to make you feel relaxed...robes, slipper socks, remote controlled climate, chocolates, q-tips, REAL toilet paper as opposed to that paper you find in other hotels, environmentally friendly bath products and don't get me started on the bed!!!!!! It is like sleeping on a cloud! You melt into the super soft mattress and when you touch the sheets, it is like even better than velvet. I had never experienced sheets this soft. And the best part is that they sell them there!
This is a MUST B&B if you are planning a trip to the gold country!

“You NEED to stay at Shafsky!”
BJ PReno, NV
11/23/2009
Our recent stay at the Shafsky House was simply outstanding. From the moment we arrived, and were warmly greeted by the "Legendary" Lily, thoughout our stay, we wanted for nothing. Rita's breakfast was just fantastic, and we found ourselves wishing we could have stayed another night or two! We'll be back, and we're telling everyone we know: "Just get there. Leave the rest to Rita and Stephanie, and (of course) Lily!" BJ.

“Like Staying with Friends”
Sandie E8/18/2009
Beautifully restored home steeped in history, short walk over a foot bridge to Old Town, comfortable rooms that take you back to yesteryear, but mostly hosts that instantly make you feel like long-time friends. Add entertainment by a darling dashund named Lilly, a fantastic gourmet breakfast the next morning, interesting/friendly other guests, and you know you have picked the perfect b&b.

“Home away from home!”
amy t6/11/2009
I've stayed at the Shafsky House many times over the past few years and love it!
The Inn is in a neighborhood that is just a stroll into the historic downtown. Lots of great restaurants and shopping!
The breakfasts make waking up in the morning easy! Rita makes thee best breakfasts, including fresh fruit, pancakes, quiches, I could go on & on!
The Inn is quaint and comfortable. The rooms are large and each has its own theme. The sitting area includes a library and is a great place to meet other guests and visit with the Innkeepers.
Can't wait to visit again!

“The most relaxing weekend we've eve”
Deb &Clayton, CA
2/20/2009
We couldn't have found a better place to stay than the Albert Shafsky House. The Victorian house is quite charming. We were treated like royalty. Rita and Stephanie were incredible hosts. The breakfasts were out of this world. Rita is an outstanding cook. We felt like we were in a 5 star hotel yet with a very homey feeling. The house is in walking distance of downtown Placerville which was very nice. They have some great places for dinner. We will certainly be back for another very relaxing weekend. We will be recommending this B & B to anyone looking for that special place to go.

“Back for our 1st Anniversary! :)”
Tiffany NSacramento, CA
1/21/2009
We stayed at this amazing B&B for our wedding night (1/5/08) and then we came back for our first anniversary. The vineyard room has the MOST amazing bed we have ever slept it--it's heaven. It's a king size bed with a memory foam mattress, topped with a feather mattress, and then is has luxurious sheets and two comforters. You literally sink into it! Not to mention that all of the decor is wine related and done in shades of burgundy and pink--very calming and romantic. They provide nice robes and slipper socks, perfect for cuddling up next to the fire in the living room and reading one of their many books.
The breakfasts are gourmet and so yummy. We had fruit, apple muffins or mango nut bread, sausage and a Shafsky benedict (poached egg on grilled veggies and an English muffin) or dutch babies (an egg pancake topped with cinnamon apples and whipped cream).
To top it all off, Rita and Stephanie are so warm and friendly you feel like you are staying with friends. They have lots of information about the area, and even made reservations for us. They also got us hooked on geocaching--lots of fun!
They also have a very cute little dachshund named Lilly, who rules the castle, so to speak (she's very well behaved and adorable).
It's the best place to go to relax, reconnect with each other and recharge your batteries.
We definitely will back back every year!

“Wonderful & Relaxing”
Gene & Pamela JVacaville, CA
1/18/2009
Great location! Enjoyed a late fall weekend in Placerville. Easy to walk to old down town which is full of antique shops and history. Placerville is the town where Thomas Kinkade began painting. A Kinkade gallery is near by. The innkeepers were the best! Chocolate chip cookies, tea and coffee in the afternoon. Nice to relax in the parlor listening to Christmas music, read and doze. Very comfortable. My husband and I look forward to visiting again next year. Breakfast was superb!

“No Title”
Julie & Doug Phillips7/28/2006
I just wanted to let you know we visited the Albert
Shafsky House B&B in Placerville ca., on July 7th
2006.
We were greeted by wonderful innkeepers, we were
shown around the inn and shown the guest refrigerator
and there were wine and cookies set out for the guests
on the table . There are 3 themed rooms and all were
beautiful.
We had a delicious breakfast of : orange juice,
coffee, tea, blue berry muffins, cold strawberry soup,
french toast topped with whip cream and a strawberry,
sausages and french frys, it was so delicious !!
I would recommend this Inn to anyone that wants to
have a quiet get away .
