Outdoor enthusiasts will savor each moment spent at this contemporary mountain lodge, nestled in the sunny mountains of the Southwest. The scent of the north woods entices one to venture out on the many hiking and biking trails surrounding the property. At the end of the day, relax in a private bath or the indoor sauna. Built on the site of the original settlement of Mountainaire, the inn shares the property with the original log cabin that was the first residence in the area. The Arcadian ambiance makes it hard to believe that urban Flagstaff is just a few miles away, providing shops and entertainment to fill the serene, moonlit nights.

Historic Interest

We are located on the homestead of the original settlers of Mountainaire. Our property hosts the first log cabin in the community as well as the dairy barn for the farming operations that took place here. On the other side of our fence, in our neighbor's yard, is the rock dairy cooler for the operations. The log cabin is still standing and was built from trees felled on site or in the nearby forest. We have incorporated some of the lumber from cabin into one wall of the lodge. In addition to the on site history of the property we have made extensive use of reclaimed lumber from several historic sites around the country. Our flooring and ceiling are covered in antique pine boards that came from the original Sear's catalog building in Chicago, decking in our entry comes from a cotton gin in Georgia and our posts and beams are from a 100 year old railroad trestle demolished in Utah.

Historic sites nearby:

Riordan Mansion State Park (7 miles), Pioneer History Museum (10 miles) Wupatki National Monument (25 miles), Walnut Canyon National Monument (15 miles), Elden Pueblo, (15 miles), V-Bar-V Petroglyph Site (30 miles), Montezuma's Castle and Well (35 miles)

Innkeeper Note

We love Flagstaff. As outdoor enthusiasts we enjoy the wide spectrum of mountain activities available to us in the San Francisco Peaks, red rocks of Sedona, Grand Canyon and elsewhere within an easy drive of the Lodge. We've hiked, biked, climbed, skied and even dog sledded on many, if not most, of the trails and climbs in the area. We built the lodge, which started out as the Sled Dog Inn, with an emphasis on the natural surroundings and for active travelers like ourselves. We want you, as our guests, to be able to enjoy Flagstaff like we do, not just as passers-by, but to actively explore all the wonderful adventures, amazing sites, and unique cultures that grace this Northern Arizona community and its surrounds. We hope you find as many wonderful treasures as we have when you visit us here in Flagstaff.

This was our 3rd anniversary and what a great get away it was. We got the Romance Package with a bottle of sparkling white wine and a dozen long stem roses. It was very romantic. Abineau Lodge was everything we thought it would be and more!
