The inn's lush grounds offer many opportunities for recreation or relaxing, and guests often enjoy special events here, such as the Fields of Lupine Festival. In the fall, a Thanksgiving package allows guests to help decorate the inn for the holidays as well as enjoy Thanksgiving dinner together. Innkeeper Note

When we (innkeepers Lon and Nancy Henderson) discovered the inn in 1999, we immediately saw in it the same things that have appealed to somewhere between 1-2,000,000 previous visitors to Sunset Hill House—location, location, location. Combined with elegant service, fine food, and historical lodging, it proved an irresistible combination. We purchased this beautiful New Hampshire inn in March 2000. As much as we are Sunset Hill House’s fortunate innkeepers, we also see ourselves as the curators of this magnificent tangible piece of New England’s heritage. It is our pleasure to welcome you to the grandeur of Sunset Hill House while letting you share in the intimacy and charm of a fine country inn. It has been 9 years and we still love it. We have added 2 more guest rooms, hosted many weddings, anniversaries and reunions. The Sunset Hill House has become home to us as well as our many returning guest.

We came up in December to find no snow. However, that changed overnight, and the awe inspiring view from our window looked like a fairy tale. What made it such a magical experience though, were the staff. The building was immaculate, food: mouthwatering, and we felt like family staying here, despite the large number of rooms. I would recommend this place to ANYONE, and I will be back soon!

We would like to thank you, Lon and your wonderful staff for everything you did for us on the occasion of Peter and Jessica's wedding on the weekend of October 23. Things went smoothly the whole weekend thanks to all of you. Even the weather cooperated! You have a lovely place there at Sunset Hill - the views are just magnificent. All our family and friends had a great time and we have had so many nice comments. We appreciate all you did to make it such a special weekend for us!

We visited your inn last Oct. for our 25 wedding anniversary. Although we just had dinner there, I wanted you to know how much we enjoyed our visit. The food was wonderful, and everyone was so nice. We had a beautiful view of a full moon rising over the mountains as we enjoyed our gourmet dinner. Nancy is a marvelous host. We hope someday soon we will be able to return to your inn and visit again. Thanks for a great memory.

By far the most spectacular place ever! The meals, the rooms, the views and the comfortable atmosphere all make this worthy of being a repeat destination. This last time we woke up at 2:00 a.m. to witness (from bed) a huge orange half moon rising over Mt. Lafayette. Visiting the Sunset Hill House will certainly be a life long tradition for the both of us!!

The Inn was exactly as we hoped it would be. You were perfect Hosts. We felt very welcome. Our room was warm, inviting and comfortable. The views, of course, were spectacular. We thought the scented soaps were a very nice touch, along with the Room Moose. The restaurant was top class. We enjoyed our two dinners there immensely. We also thought that you put on a fantastic breakfast. We both loved the Blueberry French Toast. The two written tours are a great idea. We took both of them, though we cut a few corners! I really cannot think of anything we were disappointed with.

Your Inn is the most “homey” place I have ever stayed in. I am very “country” oriented and would love to live in your area. We stayed in room 307 - beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing!!! The Tavern was cozy and we had delicious food. Love the view at breakfast, also a nice meal. We had an emergency at home which disrupted our night and your staff could not have been more helpful! With the room, the staff, the food and that handsome little cat I can’t say enough good things about your Inn; and will be sure to tell everyone I know!

The Food is Better than the Inn, and the Inn is Great!

The inn is in a beautiful location on a ridge just north of Franconia Notch in the White Mountains, with both sunrise and sunset views. It is an old building, with charm and quirks appropriate to its age. I doubt that any two rooms are alike. Our room had a small deck with a beautiful view of the Presidential Range in the distance and Canon Mountain just across the valley. The heart and soul of this inn are the innkeepers, Nancy and Lon. Rarely have we met a more delightful couple. And Nancy makes amazing breakfasts. Speaking of food, we were there on a weekend featuring the cuisine and wines of Tuscany. Our package included a 5-course, 4-wine dinner on Saturday that was extraordinary. (Wine dinners are an approximately monthly occurrence.)

Dear Nancy and Lon, The bed in the room was large and exceptionally comfortable, the JACUZZI relaxing after walking the trails of Cannon and Flume Gorge, the scenic view of the mountain ranges from our private deck absolutely gorgeous, the Inn and its surroundings inviting and serene, and your staff friendly and accommodating. Thank you for supporting the troops and providing them with a " get-away" to this lovely peaceful paradise" before they go away" to serve their country. Will be thinking of you and the spirit of your community while I'm sunning in the desert sand and heat. Sorry we missed you on your days off. Once again thanks!

I have visited numerous inns and innkeepers in my 10 years as a travel writer, but have to admit that few have impressed me as much as yours and you did.
