Circa 1909. A Dutch Colonial Revival with a delightful history of prominent owners, this inn was recently renovated to maximize comfort and style. Each guest bedroom has its own distinct personality. Choose from a variety of decor: classic elegance, Southwest, Northwoods or French Country. A double whirlpool bath or deep clawfoot tub, private sunporch or deck, gas fireplace and CD player add a touch of romance. A continental breakfast basket can be delivered to the room, or a full breakfast can be enjoyed in the sunny dining room. Entrees may include orange-spiced French toast or wild rice quiche. The quiet one-and-a-half-acre property overlooks Lake Superior. A well-manicured lawn accented with perennial beds, scotch pines and spruce trees resides peacefully with wildflowers and sumac.

This was hands down the best get away we have had together. The rooms are amazing, the food was awesome. Tim and Angie have done an amazing job with this place and we plan to come back and stay many more times. Not only is this house amazing, but the innkeepers make it very enjoyable! We are both “people-persons” and enjoyed talking and learning about the house. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay. It was perfect! Warm quilts, incredible food, genuine hospitality, perfect stay!

Best B&B Experience We've Had!

A.G. Thomson House

Mary D
6/7/2010

Our experience here exceeded all possible expectations. From the truffles on the pillow every day, to the magnificent views, to the wonderful suggestions for shopping and dining. We were continually amazed on the “little things”, the aroma of the house, the warm and inviting environment when we return after a long day of exploring, the classical music playing softly in the background. This home and our “sweet suite” was the perfect mix of classic and traditional decor meets modern amenities. The food is tremendous. People always say food tastes better when it is made with love. Angie, your food will forever be remembered as some the best breakfasts we’ve ever had. Tim and Angie, you’ve created something so special with this home and it was bittersweet to leave. We are happy for this time away from our normal lives and opportunity to celebrate my birthday in such a lavish way…we wish it didn’t have to end. However, once we return home, we can begin to tell everyone about your “home away from home”. Thank you – we can’t wait to do this again! It is always a remarkable thing to see when hard work, passion, and endless desire to improve – no matter the form it comes in. This has been the best B&B experience we’ve had. Continue living the dream you have created here!!!

We enjoyed this B&B so much! We’ve traveled the world and enjoyed many lovely bed & breakfasts, but the A G Thomson House rates right at the top of the list! It was so nice to stay there and be treated like family. It is truly an amazing place! We had our private wedding ceremony right in the yard. We couldn’t have had things any more perfect! Far better than we expected. I’m stunned at the beauty of the house, the suites, the breakfasts, the totality of it all!! Really, what struck us the most was the hospitality--and we’ll always remember this time as a new married couple. Everything is so special, and we can’t express our appreciation for being part of that. Like many have said before, we’ll certainly be back! 5 big stars!

We could not have chosen a more romantic place to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. Staying in the Lake Superior Suite was exactly what we needed. Charming, cozy, all the comforts of a 5 star hotel, but much better because of the innkeepers!! The breakfasts were just what we needed to get our days going. My only regret is we could not have stayed longer. We came as strangers, bu by the time we left we felt of you as friends. When we return to the Duluth area – we will return “home" to the Thomson House--knowing it is the best B&B in MN, if not the country. We’ll kindly refer to the Thomson House as our home away from home. We’ll be back!!

Tim and Angie, you made our stay here in Duluth perfect from the moment we pulled into the parking lot! We had been married two days when we arrived. We appreciated the greeting and help getting our bags inside. What a surprise when we found champagne and a note of congratulations waiting in our room! That was totally unexpected! Our room was so romantic! The fireplace. The whirlpool. It was exactly what we were looking for in a romantic retreat to spend our honeymoon! We were skeptical that the Thomson House could live up to the reviews and the website photos. The amazing thing is the inn is actually better! It is the innkeepers, Tim & Angie that make everything so wonderful. We are already making plans to return for our 1st anniversary! Thanks!!!

Our first trip to Minnesota and we had the pleasure to stay at the Thomson House. The B&B is terrific and Tim & Angie make running it look easy with the expertise and outgoing personalities to make the guests' stay special. This inn has great reviews and it is clear why. The great meals prepared each morning are reason enough to stay here. But it is Tim & Angie that set the Thomson House apart from the others. We can't wait to return!

We can't imagine a better place to relax and celebrate (birthday and anniversary)!! Joe and I had a wonderful time here at the beautiful Thomson House. These spectacular surroundings, the incredibly delicious breakfasts and the helpful sightseeing advice all added to our enjoyment of Duluth. All of the things you do for your guests shows how much you care. about what you do. We loved the Ryerson Suite! The sun porch is a lovel place to spend a romantic evening with that special someone. The lovely fireplace kept us warm while reading and napping. What a cozy place to stay and enjoy some time away! And thanks so much for the bottle of champagne to help us celebrate 30 years of marriage. That was so unexpected! Thank you, thank you Tim and Angie for a relaxing, rejuvenating and romantic get away! We will tell everyone we know about your little piece of heaven!

We are soooooo glad we chose the Thomson House. Tim and Angie were very welcoming from the moment we pulled into their parking lot. The breakfasts were amazing, as was the room. They have truly thought of every amenity and provided it. The inn is relaxing, homey, and comfortable---a perfect mix for a romantic getaway! The thing that really impressed us the most was the extent Tim and Angie go to in order to ensure the guests have a perfect stay. They made our dinner reservations and even helped with suggestions on what to do during the day. And all the suggestions were spot on! Tim helping dig our car out of an early Minnesota snowstorm was a really nice touch, and totally unexpected...until you get to know these innkeepers. They really do take care of their guests needs. It was like staying with close family or friends!

My husband found this lovely place from the website and he definitely chose WELL! Tim and Angie are by far and away the best innkeepers we've ever met--so gracious and accomodating! Our room was comfortable and pretty, and the back porch of the suite made for a very relaxing and rejuvenating stay. The living room and sun room were also very comfortable. The gourmet breakfasts and time spent visiting with the hosts and other guests was time well spent. We had a wonderful stay at the A.G. Everything about this place, and the hospitality of Tim and Angie was charming, warm and welcoming. We loved our suite and the common rooms. The grounds are beautiful and all the extras just add to guest enjoyment. Being greeted by two 8-point bucks near the front door of the inn was surreal. We knew the inn was near the wilderness, but that was unbelievable! The hospitality, the food, and the wonderful company all made this a get away to remember and cherish forever. The Thomson House is a rare mix of comfort, relaxation, and romance.

While it was our first experience at a B&B it will not be our last! Tim and Angie have convinced usn that this is the way to go. Breakfast was fantastic and your location cannot be beat. 6/21/2010

Once again a most enjoyable weekend at the beautiful A.G. Thomson House. We enjoy every little decoration and piece in this house. Each time we come we discover something new to us. We have claimed the Ryerson Suite as "our" room each time we return. The breakfasts are yummy. And as self proclaimed "chocoholics" the chocolate chip cookies and truffles are a very sweet touch. But more than the rooms, the house, or the food, it's you, Tim and Angie that make this our home away from home. Your warm hospitality and friendship have us coming back again and again. You both have become one of the blessings in our lives. The sign in the living room says, "enter as strangers, leave as friends". You take what is just a cliche, and truly take it to heart.

From the moment we got our first view of this fabulous mansion, met Tim and Angie, and got the "grand tour", we felt right at home. Life's tensions melted away as we "stepped back in time" in this glorious setting. The decor is restful and imaginative and we spent time in each area absorbing the flavor of a bygone era. My personal favorite experiences were early morning coffee in the sunroom with the whispering pines caressing through the screen door, mellow naps in the hammock with the carillon bell tolls of the nearby church, the incomparable view of the glistening Lake Superior, and the truly gourmet breakfast. All this was made even more perfect by the lively visits with the innkeepers. Tim and Angie have created a heavenly escape.

The THomson House was a perfect place to stay and celebrate our first anniversary as husband and wife. The breakfast and snacks were delectable (I think I gained 10 pounds!). We will definitely stay here again. We both highly recommend the hammock for some romantic afternoons together. Thanks for the lovely stay!

Thank you for making our 2nd year anniversary to memorable and romantic. I would have to say that this would be the best vacation we have had since our wedding in Maui, Hawaii. Your wonderful hospitality was a breath of fresh air. I was concerned about this being our first time away from our three month old son, but those concerns faded with the warmth and comfort of your home. It is clear that you welcome each and every guest with open arms and strive to make their stay with you an enjoyable experience. And the breakfasts, one word...spectacular! We always left to start our days with full tummys! Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality. This is definitely not going to be the last time we visit Duluth. We look forward to the next time we visit, and we will definitely be staying here again. Done be surprised if you end up having more guests staying with you from Eau Claire, because we will be sure to share with them the wonderful experience we had here at the AG Thomson House.

We have stayed at the Thomson House three times. It is now our favorite place to stay in Duluth thanks to the innkeepers, Tim and Angie Allen. They have created a cozy and romantic gem. While the mansion itself is spectacular, it is the owners that make this place so special. From the time we arrive we are treated like royalty. Tim always greets us in the back parking lot and helps take the bags to the room. Tim & Angie always make sure our needs are attended to. Until it is time to leave we are spoiled. What they have created is truly special. It is truly our favorite place to stay. It's like staying with friends or family-but better!

The Thomson House is a wonderful, romantic inn. But what sets this B&B apart are the special innkeepers, Tim & Angie. We stayed in the "Salyards" room which has a magnificent view of Lake Superior. The whirlpool and fireplace made for a truly romantic getaway for our 10th anniversary. It is the innkeepers that set the Thomson House apart from other inns we've stayed at. They make you feel like old friends from the time you arrive-- and it feels that way until you say goodbye. We've stayed at many B&Bs and know it is the innkeepers that make your stay. The Thomson House is not only a beautiful mansion, but it has very special people as innkeepers. We'd give it a 6 out of 5!!!
