Pampered Beyond Belief

This place pampers beyond belief. The breakfasts are delicious, the early evening wine tastings are nice and the staff truly aims to please. The bed was very comfortable. The suite was quite roomy. We loved the bathrobes so much that we bought 2 to take home. Treat yourself and stay at the 1906 Lodge.

Wonderful Honeymoon

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at 1906 Lodge and could not have been happier with the choice. Everything was as advertised or better. The service was outstanding from start to finish - and not just your average good service. By the time our stay was over we had gotten to know the staff and received a ton of personal recommendations, advice, and just genuine interest.

Husband Pleasing!

My husband, who is very detail-oriented, remarked several times that he couldn't think of anything he'd change in the room to make it more comfortable. The bed was fabulous and the inn was quiet at night. I loved their soaking tub and the decor. A huge perk was coffee outside of our door in the morning and enjoyed the wine and cheese in the afternoon. Also, the breakfast is two-courses and delicious. It was like brunch, really.

“When you have one night to get it right... this is the place!”

After a year in Iraq, I wanted to make the most of my mother's visit by planning a date night with my wife. I only had one night to do something special, and this place delivered! My wife is a real snob about cleanliness, and the 1906 Lodge was spotless. I would not normally have splurged for one of the garden suites, but I think I timed it well and got a good deal (or there was some military appreciation going on... not sure). Great king-sized bed, thru-wall fireplace (Bed/Bathroom views), nice tv/cable, balcony over courtyard, jacuzzi tub and huge shower w/big waterfall-like shower head... we had chilled sparkling cider waiting, and our late arrival (2130) was no problem - Susan met us cheerfully and showed us around. Breakfast the next morning was great too (scones and coffee were tops!). Unless you HAVE to stay on the beach... skip the hype of the Hotel Del and stay at the 1906 Lodge. You won't be disappointed.

“Romantic and Private”

My husband and I spent a wonderful weekend at the 1906 Lodge. We were in the romantic Tea Garden room complete with large spa tub and fireplace. The bed was soooo comfortable and the decor was beautiful along with very clean. What a treat to go down to the common area each morning for a lovely breakfast! It is a simple breakfast with a moderate amount of food to choose from but they were all very tasty and good quality. The lodge itself is so beautiful and historic, I enjoyed looking at the before and after photos of its restoration. Due to cold/rainy weather we took advantage of the DVD player (which you can see from the bathtub..lol) and DVD library in the lobby. The location was ideal, walkable to the main area of town but private once you get to your room..the best of both worlds! This was a splurge for us and we think it was worth every penny. Stay here if you can.

“Perfect honeymoon location”

My wife and I just got married and had only one day for a mini-honeymoon, so we opted to stay at the 1906 Lodge. We loved it! It was perfect for a couple looking to spend some quality time alone.

“Romantic, relaxing getaway, worth every penny...” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2011 2 people found

We stayed in the Ocean Blvd room which was beautiful! Comfortable cozy bed, quiet whirlpool tub, walk-in shower, everything is very clean, you feel like your staying in an amazing home on the beach not some cookie cutter hotel room. The service here is truly where the Lodge stands apart from all others, from my first call I felt like I was being invited by a friend to check out this awesome place to the care and conversation of Susan and all the staff. You'll always be met with a smile here. The great breakfast each morning and wine & cheese in the evening, the complimentary water in the room, evening turn down service with chocolates and more make you feel like you've gotten tremendous value for your money! They "get it" here. The location is perfect as we walked to lunches and dinners right on Orange ave a block away and grabbed the complimentary beach chairs and enjoyed relaxing at the beach in front of the Del. May seemed to be the perfect time to come, no crowds, perfect weather, we felt we had the island to ourselves. One of the nights we went out on our patio to watch a spectacular fireworks show coming from the Del, Susan here at the Lodge joked that it was complimentary for her guests. Over all my wife and I had a perfect stay and we are sure to return to this magical place again and again.

“Amazing and romantic!”

My fiancee proposed to me down on the beach in Coronado and took me back to our amazing room at the 1906 lodge where champagne and flowers were waiting! The staff was extremely friendly and caring and made us the most amazing breakfast the next morning. They also were kind enough to take some pictures of us around the beautiful property. The room was incredibly clean, spacious, and the sheets were the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The location was also walking distance to all the great restaurants and practically across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado and the beach. We plan on coming back for our honeymoon night!

“Romantic and Completely Clean and Charming in Coronado!”

My boyfriend and I stayed here last summer for a romantic getaway and for a birthday celebration, and I wanted to express what a wonderful time we had. The place is absolutely beautiful and clean. The staff was so kind and helpful, and made our vacation extremely memorable. The breakfasts were sooo delicious, and served with such grace and care. The location of the lodge is so perfect-just a quick and beautiful walk to the beach and lovely town, and accessible to downtown San Diego. Our vacation was so romantic and wonderful thanks to the wonderful people at 1906 lodge. We would definately stay here again to experience beautiful Coronado!

“Simply the best!”

My wife and I just returned home from a 3 night stay at the 1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach. Our time there was perhaps the most relaxing vacation we've had in over a decade. The staff was friendly and professional; the rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfortable; and the gardens are simply breathtaking. I am writing this from the point of view of someone who never in the past would have agreed to stay at a bed & breakfast. My wife always wants to, but I've always equated it to staying at a cross between a museum and my Grandmother's house. The 1906 Lodge has changed my point of view on that for good. I would highly recommend the 1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach to anyone looking to get away and relax for a bit..... it was my wife's idea and I have to admit that she was right!

“Triple Threat: Lovely decor, warm hospitality, excellent location”

My husband and I recently spent three nights at the 1906 Lodge for our third anniversary. It was fabulous! We stayed in "Kate's Garden", a charming room with a bay window with window seat, overlooking the inn's courtyard garden. Help-yourself coffee service was right outside our door which made me smile. Fresh, hot coffee first thing in the morning is the way I like to start a day. You will not find a better place to stay on Coronado Island than 1906 Lodge. It has the privacy and charm of a boutique hotel combined with the hospitality and attention-to-detail of a bed and breakfast.

“Exceptional Romantic Getaway”

Our room (Trolley Car room) was one of the finest rooms I've enjoyed at the B&Bs. The fireplace by the bath was a wonderful treat. Although this house is an early California mission style, the rooms (newer wing for us) are large and comfortable. The whole Inn has been updated with impeccable style, warmth and charm. The snacks were creative and delicious with the nightly wine. Breakfast was a gourmet treat prepared personally for us upon arrival to the breakfast room. The Lodge is easy walking distance to the shops and excellent cafes around the Hotel Del. There are many places to rent bikes, and the new 20 mile bike rail trail is open heading south on the strand. With parking hard to find, the underground garage is the perfect plus. This is a quiet peaceful Lodge. Highly recommend!

“My Wedding memories will always include the lodge!”

I want to thank the lodge for hosting my wedding party and family! We had such an amazing time staying and getting ready for the big day there! The lodge and their staff really made me feel special. The night before my wedding my family gathered on the porch laughing and talking. We felt so comfortable there, not to mention it was beautiful! My entire family, from aunts and uncles to Cousins each had a room at the Lodge and they just loved it! Thank you so much!! One last thing, best hotel bed I have ever slept in! First time I have ever fallen asleep the second I put my head down!

Elegant, Beatiful B&B!

My husband and I were originally going to stay in San Diego, but while researching San Diego and the surrounding area, we came upon the 1906 Lodge. We are so glad we found this hotel! The location is great, the staff is wonderful, and the rooms and the grounds are beautiful! We had chosen the Plunge room, but were upgraded to the North Island room upon our arrival. The suite is spacious, elegant, and very clean. It has a balcony, Jacuzzi tub, fireplace, a separate sitting area, and a refrigerator stocked with waters. They also provide comfy bathrobes as well as a couple of CDs you can play in the small CD player. Breakfast was delicious; fresh baked muffins, scones, fruit, and a hot dish prepared for each guest as they arrived in the breakfast area. The afternoon wine and snacks were just as wonderful and a great way to get to know the other guests. Another great amenity is the free underground parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so pleasant!

Great Location, Friendly People, Just Right

What a fantastic place! We loved the classic architectural restoration work. The lodge is attractive, comfortable, and friendly and the accommodations were first-rate. We were graciously hosted by Denese and the staff, who made sure we felt welcome and at home. We're not the type to enjoy the hustle and crowds of places like the Hotel Del Coronado; we prefer a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere. The 1906 Lodge provided us that and much more.

Best Hotel!!!

I have traveled all over the world from Central and South America to Germany. This is by far the best hotel I have stayed in. Location, Location, Location, this hotel is in the most perfect spot on the island, walking distance from everything you need. Service was great, from the little personal touches of turn down service, to meeting the owner and having a warm invite. The rooms are great, I have never slept in a bed as comfortable as that one. This hotel gives you the touches of any five star hotel with the comforts of home. You get such a personal touch you never want to leave. They are very very military friendly also. I recommend this place to anyone traveling to San Diego. The 1906 lodge can be summed up as, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!

Your level of hospitality exceeded anything we experienced anywhere

... all sensational and deserving of the highest praise for running such a terrific establishment. You made us feel welcome and "at home". We travel once or twice a year and have stayed at many places (including 5 star hotel/resorts including the luxury brands like the Four Seasons, Westin, Fairmont, etc.). Your level of hospitality exceeded anything we experienced anywhere. We had such a great time in San Diego and especially in Coronado. If we come back, we already know where we'll be staying.

Outstanding Venue

Both Matt and I enjoyed a fun gathering of beautiful people (we all did look pretty darn good), outstanding venue (nothing finer than the Lodge), .... a very comfortable room, lots of flowing wine, a perfect front porch, and a breakfast that was outstanding.

Would highly recommend

possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Stayed 7 nights in total, was looked after exceptionally well (I had flu while here and had hot lemon drinks made specially for me which was highly appreciated)... personal service, fantastic included breakfast, and nice touch with the wine reception every night. Will definitely be back on my next trip to SDO, even just for the experience of going over the bridge every day!

Your Lovely Lodge

When we arrived at 1906 Lodge I felt like Goldilocks when she yelled "This one is just right". You provided the warmth & friendliness of a B&B and the privacy $ amenities of a 5 star hotel. My wife and I are collectors and have been lovers of the Arts and Crafts movement for many years. Your beautifully and meticulously restored 1906 Lodge was like stepping back in time. The attention to detail, even down to the period hardware on the doors, the tiles in the bathroom and the trim and furnishings were perfect.

Beautiful rooms, wonderful location

My boyfriend and I stayed here two weeks ago. We are in our early twenties and needed a place to stay on Coronado island for the night. Wow! 1906 Lodge was just two blocks from downtown Coronado and has rooms that each tell a piece of Coronado's history. The Tent City room where we stayed was cozy and the huge jacuzzi tub and fireplace made for a very romantic stay. There was secure underground parking and everything was so clean! There is a lovely breakfast in the morning and the staff is very accommodating and sweet! WIll definitely be going back! Perfect for a peaceful retreat!
