Circa 1824. Ideally located in the Mad River Valley, this historic two-story white clapboard, ten-gabled farmhouse is listed in the National Register and includes a renovated 1870 New England-style post and beam barn. Listen to music by the fireplace in the living room or watch a video in the informal TV Room. Enjoy the relaxed elegance of the guest bedrooms that feature feather beds and antiques. Chef John Lumbra creates dramatic three-course gourmet breakfasts. Make reservations for a sumptuous dinner at the inn. Explore fifteen scenic acres of landscaped lawns with Adirondack furniture, a terraced formal garden and an open field for sledding. Two acres are on the river, offering an excellent swimming hole and boat portage. Direct access to the Trail provides miles of walking and cross-country skiing. After an active day, soak in the outdoor Jacuzzi.

About Our Rooms

The Bennington Room

The Bennington is a large second floor room, with a comfortable seating area and private bath. Access is from a very steep stairway, so this room is recommended for our more nimble guests. The bed in this room can be arranged as two twins.

Rates: $135 - $160

Type of bed: King

The Caledonia Room

The Caledonia is a quiet ground floor room at the back of the house. It features a sliding glass door that opens to a private patio overlooking the back yard. The room has a king sized bed, a private bath and a small seating area.

Rates: $145 - $170

Type of bed: King

The Orleans Room

The brightest and sunniest room with pleasant views of the back pasture, this second floor bedroom has a king bed and a small seating area. Because of a steep eave and a unique bathroom, we recommend this room for guests of moderate height, and those who are comfortable on our steep stairway.

Rates: $135 - $160

Type of bed: King

The Washington Room

This second floor bedroom is the largest and is part of the original farmhouse, built in 1824. It features a 'lazy' window and view of the property to the south. The room has a comfortable bathroom and beautiful furniture.

Rates: $145 - $170

Type of bed: King

The Addison Room

This second floor bedroom is one of the coziest. It has great views of the Mad River and our neighbor's organic vegetable farm. The large private bath has a shower rather than a tub.

Rates: $115 - $140

Type of bed: Queen

The Chittenden Room

This second floor bedroom has a view of the Mad River and the front lawn area. It is furnished with period pieces and has a private bath with tub and shower.

Rates: $125 - $150

Type of bed: Queen

The Franklin Room

This private first floor room is quietly set at the back of the inn. Many guests choose to use the adjacent TV room as their semi-private seating area. The view from the room is view outside is of the kitchen herb garden.

Rates: $135 - $160

The Windham Room

This ground floor room is directly adjacent to the parlor, making it ideal for anyone who has trouble with stairs. The view is of the duck pond and our neighbor's organic vegetable farm to the north.

Rates: $125 - $150

Type of bed: Queen
