Circa 1790. Reflecting a genteel life and the southern traditions of hospitality, this well-preserved and authentically restored Victorian manor house mansion has grand verandas with two-story antebellum columns in the Shenandoah Valley. Gracing the base of the Massanutten Mountains between New Market and Harrisonburg, Virginia, half of the 20 pastoral acres are landscaped and include a river, a brook, a wooded preserve and a bird and deer sanctuary. Riding pastures and a picnic area are by the limestone spring house. Spacious guest suites feature antique furnishings. Many have fireplaces and one boasts a clawfoot tub. The bath lounge includes a four-person sauna. Enjoy a hearty healthy breakfast in the dining room which was the original log house perched on a hill overlooking Smith's Creek. The second-floor veranda offers spectacular views and cool breezes. Popular Endless Caverns is a seven-minute walk from the inn.

Location: Country, Mountains and Waterfront.

Romantic Interest

Often used by newlyweds, the Salyard Cottage is a very romantic getaway separated from the house. Includes a kitchen and a real wood-burning fireplace. Suites in the house are large and private, each having its own bath, with Queen- or King-size beds. All have working fireplaces for cozy fall nights and access to long verandas for relaxing and enjoying cool breezes or watching the stars in the summer.

Historic Interest

The original portion of the house (log cabin which is now the dining room) was constructed in 1790. The house was untouched during the Civil War, with a large addition being constructed in 1870. The inn is also associated with three White House administrations, including Harding, FDR, and Woodrow Wilsons, as the family who bought the house in the 1920 were friends with all three presidents.

Sharon and I are sending you this note to express our deep appreciation for the quality of your inn and the excellent service you provided. Your breakfast was world class. As we shared with you, we had a bad experience the night prior to our stay with you. It was our first bed and breakfast experience. Our evening at the Rosendale Inn rekindled our faith in the possibilities of a bed and breakfast. We will always remember our night at the Rosendale Inn. We wish you all the success you can imagine.
